I started karate on September 4, 1972, as a form of self-defense and later continued because I enjoyed it as a sport as much as the descipline and the will to grow stronger and build confidence in myself.

I am known for the speed and accuracy of my kicks and foot techniques. Through the years I have attained a great deal of respect for this ability. In 1975, I was Grand Champion of the NMS Tournament and I have won a number of other awards through the years. I received my First Degree Black Belt in February, 1975, and am currently a Fifth Degree Black Belt (April, 1988). I instruct one of the largest schools in Muskegon, which I started in November, 1982, as the Martial Arts Academy. On November 15, 1983, I established what is now known as Salomon's Karate Studio. Highlights of my tournament wins include, third place in Olympic trials, Grand Champion and team winner, NMS Tournament (1975), third place, lightweight, Grand Nationals (1984), Team competition, Salomon's Karate Studio defeated Paducah, Kentucky (1987), fourth place in Michigan Karate Circuit (1993). I have a record 13 first place wins in a row, and have a registered wins in all tournaments I entered. I also fought in a full contact team competition in Cobo Hall (1975).

My goal when I first began as a student was to become a Black Belt. My goal as a Black Belt is to be the best fighter, the best instructor, and to be popular in my field. As a karate instructor my goals are to grow into the largest karate school in the area, to be well known for my teaching and karate abilities, and to develop outstanding students with goals such as mine.

My theory on karate is the sense of achievement one gains from the discipline and exercise. Karate has taught me to respect all man-kind and I pass this knowledge on to my students.

On March 10, 1986, I developed my own system known as the United Karate System. Previous to this I was under the American Karate System for over 13 years under the instruction of My. Ernest H. Lieb, 8th degree Black Belt.
